ABOUT ACUPUNCTURE

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that has been used for over 2,000 years. It is traditionally used for maintaining health, as well as managing disease. It works to stimulate the body's own healing response to help restore its natural balance.

How Can Acupuncture Help Me?
Acupuncture is a tried and tested system of medicine with its roots in China.
Fine, disposable needles are used to stimulate points on the meridians or energy pathways with the aim of balancing the body's natural defences.

Acupuncture seeks to:
  • Restore and balance energy
  • Enhance well being
  • Relieve pain
  • Promote healthy living

"Angela has treated me for almost a year, primarily in order to alleviate chronic pain arising from a long-standing spinal condition. I have benefited very considerably from both acupuncture and shiatsu treatments, with a decrease in neck, shoulder and hip pain. My migraine attacks have also been both less frequent and of reduced severity."

    Treatment
Acupuncture treatment involves inserting fine needles into the channels of energy (meridians) to help to restore the body to its natural balance. The needles are often inserted and removed straight away and sometimes left for about 20 minutes.

Along with needles other techniques can be used. These include Moxibustion - burning a herb on the point - to warm and activate the point, and Cupping, which is the application of small cups to the skin to help specific areas of pain and muscle tension.

    How long does treatment take?
The first consultation should take between one and a half to two hours . This involves taking a full, detailed, confidential account of your medical history, lifestyle and current complaint. The first consultation will also include your first treatment.
Follow-up treatments will last about 60 minutes.

How many treatment will I need?
It will depend upon your condition on how many times you will need treatment. Most patients see an improvement after 4 - 8 treatments.

It is then recommended that you have treatments every few months to maintain your health, once you are balanced and well.

"I have been having acupuncture with Catherine on and off for several years and it has transformed my life. I can cope with my depression and panic attacks and feel that it has brought me out from a dark cloud of feeling so alone with my illness. I still look forward to my treatments as Catherine is so easy to talk to and cares about my wellbeing."
